The Sex Drive is another comedy movie revolving around growing up. It focuses on a newly minted highschool graduate and her road trip across the country. This trip is much more focused on friendship and self discovery than anything else.
The unique and interesting part of this trip is the lessons that are learned. The road trips provide some of the most meaningful lessons around. The trip itself ends up blending bits of strong feelings and humor. It is able to accomplish this with some help of the actors in the movie. The film is a perfect representation of a true comedy.
The protagonist of the movie is Ian Lafferty. He is a newly minted highschool graduate who is also shy. Ian is a very nice person. Despite this, he tends to be a lot more reserved and keeps to himself. He doesn’t spend a lot of time with others. He doesn’t spend a lot of time with people as he tends to be working a part time job in a mall. This job as well as a relationship are seen as a major lack.
Upon having conversations that progressed to a deeper level and having developed a significant rapport, he plans a rendezvous that is a two-day journey. It quite amusingly took Ian all the way down to Tennessee from the state of Illinois. Ian takes the road trip in his older brother’s prized automobile—that he sorely did not seek permission to borrow.
He is accompanied by two of his closest friends, Felicia and Lance, each of whom have their own unique things to bring to the table. Felicia, who happens to be one of the most intelligent people Ian knows, and Lance, who seems to be a bold and reckless guy, both take Ian on this journey that consists of crazy, hilarious, interesting, and impactful adventures.
This journey’s road trip is certainly not a dull one, with all the action, and different kinds of people they meet, from small town gatherings and broken down cars to the incredibly friendly Amish guy that goes by the name of Ezekiel. Even in the direst of times, Ian and his friends get in some tough situations that challenges their beliefs and values, and most importantly, their friendships.
These experiences greatly help Ian understand that just because one decides to go on one path within their mental framework, that does not mean that same path is the one which one needs to take. Before the direction is taken, he learns that life is not about respect, status, or ideals, but compassion, fidelity, and set relationships.
Personal growth is achieved by Ian from this trip. He appreciates his friendship with Felicia, which does wonders to his confidence, and encourages him to understand the significance his self identity.
